I often have people ask me: Did you REALLY make that? It is funny to me and also a really easy question to answer as it is always a resounding : YES! In all seriousness though; I really do understand why people wonder. With all of the fast fashion being pumped out in this world at truly atrocious speeds, it is a wonder to people when they see something truly spectacular, why the handmade artists would ACTUALLY make it ?! Well, I preach it often, and I am here to do it again, and shed some light on the value of handmade.

The handmade movement has really gained notice over the last 5 -7 years , but many handmade artists still struggle to get noticed and be valued for their work. This can change by educating and teaching people the value of handmade. If we can expose and educate people about what goes into the process of handmade, then we can understand why it actually HELPS our environment and economy.

Did you know that goods make my hand take  less energy than a mass production assembly line, which  in turn makes it more environmentally sustainable?  Also, when you buy local, it STAYS in the community which shows a profound economic impact by keeping these local communities thriving and staying in business; the more you buy local the more money stays within that community. Money needs to keep moving in order to keep the economy alive, rather than becoming shopper “ghost towns” or “clone towns”.

These are just a handful of the reasons why you should educate yourself on the value that handmade has in our world. We need to support local, small businesses and artists over the big corporations to keep building and keeping the handmade industry alive and thriving.
